Note: The passenger pigeon lived in enormous flocks until the early 20th century. An 1866 sighting was described as being a mile wide, 300 miles long, and taking 14 hours to pass a single point. Estimates put that flock at 3.5 billion birds. The last passenger pigeon died in 1914 at the Cincinnati Zoo.
